Biography of this particular sketching artist:
Gayle in a Canadian artist, who was born on Vancouver Island in the Comox Valley,
at a time when life was simple and pencils were plentiful, well spent in the self-teaching of drawing.
While no proper 'art schools' were attended outside of high school, Gayle has had a wealth of jobs which required the need for her artistic eye.
Art & drawing took a step way back when marriage and then her kids arrived, there is no doubt that raising kids is in it's self an art form.
Three events happened in 2007, an injury, a therapist and a grade one field trip.
An injury at work to Gayle's right shoulder/arm, required the help of a therapist who used mind over pain therapy's, applying the love of art, by doing imaginary large wall paintings would encourage movement, the theory being that if you have a love of what you are doing the pain is more easily ignored.
A trip to Calgary to visit her daughter and grand kids was to include a grade one field trip with her oldest grand daughter to the Leighton Art Institute in the foot hills of Calgary.
Everyone was given a small blank book and a HB pencil, then in our little groups sent out into nature to draw what we seen.
As Oprah says it was an 'aha' moment, 'this is what I was supposed to be doing all along'.
Hours and hours of practice, studying techniques, watching and re-learning skills followed after that day. Re-discovering the tools of drawing, the papers and vast array of graphite pencils, colour pencils & water colour pencils, more hours of experimentation, creation of a personal style of Conceptional Realism and conceptual humour.
In 2015 Gayle finally challenged herself to let the public see her art. With much relief and successful acceptance into the public eye the journey continued.
An Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artist & Comox Valley Art's.
